For specialist electrical contractors, engineers, and project teams, access to the right technical equipment can be the difference between keeping a project moving and bringing work to a standstill.
Electrical test and measurement equipment, however, presents a particular challenge. Specialist instruments can represent a significant capital investment, may only be required for a specific project or maintenance window, and can be difficult to source when requirements change at short notice.
Which raises the question: “What equipment do we truly need?”
This was a challenge that Cameron Brandis experienced firsthand. A deeply experienced electrical engineer, Cameron founded Brandis Hire in Queensland in 2016 after years of working in the electrical power industry and recognised an opportunity to approach technical equipment hire differently.
Cameron understood that having access to the right equipment at the right time, was critical to the success of a project. Sourcing specialist equipment was never just about finding a particular model on a fleet list. The equipment had to suit the application, be accurate and reliable, and be available when the project (or breakdown) required it. The cost had to make commercial sense, and when questions arose, specialists needed access to people who understood how that equipment was actually used in the field.
These key learnings from his lived experience would ultimately become the Brandis Hire difference.
Making technical hire easier
From the beginning, the objective was straightforward: technical equipment hire, the easy way.
That meant building a quality specialised fleet but also addressing the difficulties and frictions of technical hire: Slow quoting, rigid hire periods, poor equipment availability, freight coordination and limited technical support can add stress to an already complex job.
The focus was placed on understanding the requirements of the project, what equipment was needed, where it was needed, when it had to arrive and how the hire could work within the timeframe and budget.
A decade later, those principles guide the way Brandis Hire operates. What began as a single Queensland operation has since grown into a national business, with branches in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. While a national freight network enables Brandis Hire to support projects well beyond metropolitan areas into regional and remote Australia.
That accessibility is becoming increasingly vital. Renewable energy, BESS, data centres, and major infrastructure projects are being delivered alongside ongoing power generation, transmission and distribution upgrades, network maintenance, and commissioning works.
With this, specialists are often in high demand and stretched overseeing multiple jobs and projects at once, meaning access to reliable equipment, and a partner who understands and delivers on their needs is essential.
No fleet can cover all projects, so specialists understand ownership is not always the most practical answer or the most reliable. Therefore, the ability to flex your fleet with a supportive hire partner is vital.
Treating equipment as OPEX provides a significant reduction to the upfront cash flow impacts of heavy capital expenditure. With flexibility to access up to date, well maintained and calibrated equipment without, ongoing maintenance and repair complexities.
The right hire partner understands more than equipment. They understand the pressures surrounding project delivery, changing schedules and the consequences when critical equipment isn’t available.
It is within this gap that Brandis Hire has built its reputation.
More than equipment hire
Today, Brandis Hire supports projects across all Australia’s major electrical sectors, backed by one of the country’s largest specialist test and measurement hire fleets.
The fleet incorporates technology from leading manufacturers including OMICRON, Megger, Fluke, Schneider, and well-known industry brands that support applications across commissioning and maintenance. This includes testing for protection and control systems, transformers, circuit breakers and primary plant, and cables, power quality analysis, and specialised applications.
But the business’ focus has never been centred solely on expanding the fleet size.
Cameron’s experience in the field continues to influence a broader philosophy within Brandis Hire: equipment only creates value when the specialists delivering the project can access what they want, when they need it.
Flexible hire arrangements consider individual project requirements, rather than forcing every project need into the same structure.
For larger or more complex works, Brandis’ Project Package offering helps coordinate multiple equipment requirements across different stages of a project—reducing the need for project teams to independently source and manage each requirement as works progress.
They expanded their partner support offers, and in July 2026, they launched their Platinum Partner Program, recognising businesses with which they have developed their strongest relationships. The program acknowledges that long-term partnerships with additional support and benefits across the Brandis Hire fleet and team.

National team with an industry focus
As the physical footprint of Brandis Hire has expanded, so too has the team behind it.
Specialists are positioned across Australia, providing local support backed by a national organisation, with the investment in sought after units doubling during the latest operation expansion.
Focus has been placed on developing expertise internally and creating a structured approach to account management. Dedicated account managers understand each client’s operations, preferred equipment types and upcoming projects, with key clients having access to a concierge-style account manager, allowing timely and valuable responses when requirements arise.
The benefit is practical: when equipment is required the conversation doesn’t start from zero.
That support extends across technical support, senior and project account management, and marketing and brand engagement specialists, reflecting the different ways the business works alongside their clients. The same philosophy has also led Brandis Hire to look beyond the transaction itself.
Branches facilitate technical learning opportunities with key supply partners, collaborative marketing initiatives, client spotlights and representing at industry-led expos and conferences around Australia.
Built for what’s next
The electrical industry Brandis Hire entered in 2016 is not the same industry it serves today. Projects are becoming larger and more technically complex. Energy transition is creating new testing and compliance requirements, and increased digitisation presents unique challenges. BESS, renewables, and data centres are expanding rapidly, while utilities and contractors continue the critical work of upgrading, commissioning, and maintaining the current network.
For Brandis Hire, the next chapter is about ensuring its capability grows alongside that demand. The recent relocation of the Brisbane Operation to a larger facility in Northgate, providing greater fleet and operational capacity in Queensland and the opening of the Western Australian operation in Perth in early 2026 forms part of that investment, focused on strengthening the broader national network.
With their growth they continue to have key support from major partners like OMICRON, Megger, and Fluke who also act as technical support liaisons between Brandis Hire and their clients when complexities arise in the field.
For a business that began with an electrical engineer recognising the difficulties of sourcing specialist equipment on site, the philosophy remains remarkably similar a decade later: Get the right equipment to specialists who need it, when they need it, and support them to get the job done.
Brandis Hire is proud to support an industry that contributes to economic growth, the development of infrastructure nationwide, and ensuring the everyday lives of Australian residents remain unimpacted.
Their growth has seen them move from a single Queensland operation to a national specialist hire partner supporting any project, any scale, anywhere.
