Locals get meet and greet with wind turbine blade

Locals have had the chance to see a massive 80m wind turbine blade on display at a community event in Hyden, Western Australia.

The blade will form part of Synergy’s King Rocks Wind Farm, which is currently under construction nearby.

A prime mover carrying the blade parked at a local truck bay, gave locals the chance to see the blade up close, take photos and learn about the wind farm’s role in Western Australia’s energy transition.

The blade display provided a rare opportunity for the community to experience the scale of the technology before it is lifted 125m to the top of the turbine tower.

51 V162 Vestas wind turbine blades are being transported 450km from the Port of Bunbury to the construction site in the Wheatbelt. The other turbine components have already been delivered to site, including 85 tower sections, 17 turbine hubs, 17 nacelles and 17 power trains.

Construction of the wind farm is progressing, with three turbines now in place.

Once complete, King Rocks Wind Farm will comprise 17 turbines, capable of generating up to 105MW of renewable electricity—enough to power around 70,000 homes each year.

WA Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said, “[The] blade event was a rare opportunity for the Hyden community to see the technology being installed at King Rocks Wind Farm that will power WA’s energy future.

“Seeing a turbine blade up close helps bring the scale of the project to life and gives locals a better understanding of the incredible renewable infrastructure being built in their region.

King Rocks Wind Farm is expected to be operational in 2027.
