Energy Needs of Data Centres Australia
Global Transmission Report, with support from AUinfra and REGlobal, is pleased to announce its Energy Needs of Data Centres Australia conference on 04 August 2026, at The Stamford Plaza, Sydney Airport.
Australia’s Energy Needs of Data Centres Australiadata centre sector is experiencing rapid growth, driven by demand for AI workloads, cloud services, and digital infrastructure. Ranked among the world’s top ten markets for hyperscale data centres, Australia offers abundant renewable energy, strong policy support, ample land, geopolitical stability, and proximity to Asia-Pacific demand.
This expansion is driving a sharp increase in electricity consumption. The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) projects that data centre power use could triple by 2030. While demand is concentrated in Sydney and Melbourne, other cities such as Brisbane and Perth are also emerging. Access to reliable power is critical in determining where data centres are built.
This concentration of demand presents challenges, including grid bottlenecks and longer connection timelines, especially as electrification accelerates across sectors.
At the same time, data centres present opportunities. They can support grid stability, enable renewable integration, and act as anchor loads for clean energy projects through solutions such as battery storage and PPAs.
